Hello everyone, I am the caregiver for my husband who has MM.  I just wanted to ask if anyone has had any problems taking Leviguin ? I keep receiving e-mails telling me that Leviquin can cause ruptured tendons. When I got the first e-mails I had asked the nurse and doctor about this. I was told my husband was not on a strong enough dose to hurt him.. A week ago my husband started to fill pain in his knee. Around the 13th of this month he went to get out of bed and felt a pop.  He is in a lot of pain, he was told to ice it. Then if not better in a week call or come in. We go back in a couple of days.

I just want to know if anyone else has had problems with this medication?

I am getting worried.

I'm aware of the FDA warnings and it did/does concern me.  However, I haven't had any problems that I can associate with Lev.   I'll also say that I'm comforted knowing I have Lev on-hand for when I catch a chest cold or bronc infection...it has been very helpful.

It's really difficult figuring out which drug is causing which side-effect...at least it has been for me.  Make sure you're talking to your doctor as well as the rest of the medical team....they all need to know.

I hope all works out with you and your husband

Hi Dizzy1,

Dr. Tricot, the director of the Huntsman Cancer Institute Myeloma Program, says:

Tendon ruptures can happen with levaquin but are very uncommon. It is more common to see tendon ruptures when levaquin is taken for a long time in combination with dexamethasone or prednisone. I have seen this happen twice in many thousands of patients that I have followed. Both times, the achilles tendon was involved.

Hope this helps.

I am extremely allergic to Levaquin and break out in hives when I take it. I avoid it! I hope your husband gets better quickly.
