| Is the treatment offered at Huntsman like one of the Total Theraphy Treatments given by Dr. Barlogie at UAMS since Dr. Tricot worked there?

Hi sister-in-law,
Thank you for your question. The program's treatment approach is similar to Total Therapy III in that it centers around tandem transplantation, but it is less aggressive than Total Therapy III. Total Therapy III had some toxicities associated with it in a sub-group of enrolled patients, and so the idea behind the HCI approach is to reap the benefits of Total Therapy III but with a more favorable side effect/toxicity profile.

Wow! Thanks for the well-informed reply. What about the regime coming out of Mayo Rochester that is not nearly as aggressive, but maybe getting just as good results?

| And while I'm at it (we're in a hurry here to get to a treatment)--why isn't Dr. Tricot and crew doing Total Theraphy IVor V?

Hi again,
The regimen used at the Mayo Rochester doesn't have the same long-term follow-up that the total therapies had. There are many therapies that are a lot less aggressive and yield great initial results, but unfortunately, aside from transplantation, those results are not sustained for the 10 or more years that tandem transplantation has been able to achieve. So, deciding on the correct treatment approach means that each patient has to weigh the risks and benefits and decide what makes the most sense to him/her.
Re: Total Therapy IV and V. Total Therapy IV is very similar to the HCI treatment approach but is still a bit more aggressive. The last time I checked, that trial was not yet open for enrollment, but that was approximately 1.5 months ago. I do not know a whole lot about Total Therapy V to comment intelligently on the similarities and differences between the HCI approach and that protocol.
I hope this helps! Have a great weekend, and best of luck to you and your family as you decide on what place suits you best for treatment. I wish you all the very best.

You can compare TT3, TT4 (or also referred to as TT3 lite) with what the Huntsman is doing.
Huntsman: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00670631
Arkansas: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00734877
Good luck
