I am a patient at Huntsman with asymptomatic myeloma or MGUS. I am very happy with my doctor there, but was wondering if I should be seeing one of the myeloma specialists. What kind of concerned me was I have had skelatal surveys done but not an MRI. I have recently been diagnosed with osteopenia and am taking medication for it.

Hi Pamela,

From our perspective, we would recommend that you see a myeloma specialist just to confirm that you don't need any treatment at this time. To make this determination, we believe its important to have cytogenetics, an MRI and a PET/CT scan.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. We can set up an appointment for you if you wish. You can e-mail myeloma-web@hci.utah.edu or call: 801-587-4652 or toll free 1-800-664-8268.
