I have been in remission from Multiple Myeloma for almost three years after completing a stem cell transplant in 2005 in Seattle.  I moved to Elko, Nevada last year and have been seeing an oncologist  in SLC for about 9 months.  She is not an MM expert,  but what I am having the greatest problem with right now is that she is not a person of faith.  She is uncomfortable talking about the benefits of blessings, faith, prayer and that sort of thing.  I found that it has been a great comfort when I lived in Washington to have an oncologist who shared my faith while being an excellent physiscian as well.

If there is anything that I have learned from my old friend cancer it is that when you have faith in a resurrection and that there is hope, the fear of death is not near so great and it gives you more energy to focus on getting well.

I am trying to decide whether to ask for Dr Tricot or Dr. Zangari as my primary oncologist.  Do any of you have experience with either of these two Doctors and can tell me which of the two would be better in this area than the other?

Grumpy,

I can't comment on the spiritual aspect of either doctor, but I would think anyone who has committed their life to fighting such a beast must reach a deep level of spiritual connection.  Whether it's religious in nature, or just nature, they must have an appreciation for life.

Being a new patient...considering your options...I would ask to meet with Dr. Tricot's daughter...before or after meeting with the doctor himself.  She has a way of communicating his vision that is very settling and reassuring.  She knows where he's come from, and where he's going.  My wife and I both appreciated our conversations with her so much, we left the office calm, reassured, and confident in our treatment plan.  Heck, when she comes to talk, we don't want to let her go.  She works research for her father and is full of information.  I'm so interested in future trials and directions, I have a million questions to bounce off her...and she doesn't seem to mind :-)

Good Luck

Thanks so much for your advice.  I will certainly talk to her.

Unfortunately my experience with Doctors and their dedication has not always been the same as yours but it sounds like he is a great one.
